It’s 12 degrees outside today, which is an improvement from -7 yesterday. During the winter months my training routine adapts to the environment. I mainly workout inside! Sometimes it is nice to get onto my elliptical, treadmill or Stairmaster and read a book or watch the latest episode of Bar Rescue. Don’t get me wrong, I enjoy being outside. Today the sun is out and the icicles hanging from the rooftops are definitely something to behold — I just prefer the view my window.
Some purists will argue the law of specificity demands I run to maintain my legs for the upcoming half marathon, Tough Mudder and 10K season. I would argue that if I slip on the ice and get hurt, my season could be over before it starts. The thing about buying an indoor piece of equipment is to make sure you buy quality. The stuff they sell at Sears is usually not the best stuff unless you are planning on using it as a coat rack. Quality equipment is a pleasure to use and will make your exercise experience more likely to happen.
Part of the problem with people who make New Years resolutions to exercise is that they never fully commit — there is something to be said when you invest $2000 into a piece of exercise equipment. When you spend that kind of money, you are saying that you are $2000 committed to doing this. The guilt involved alone may not be enough to get you on it. A visit by one of our friendly Personal Best Fitness trainers can change that, serving as an exercise aide who will make you work out! Just setting up one visit a month can help keep you on track. So give us a call. We want to feel your success!
